Willow hosts the official restart of the Iditarod, with mushers, dog trucks and crowds arriving next to Willow Lake. For a pet dog it is the highest stimulation day of the year in the whole community, and it is not the day to discover your dog cannot cope.

The Nancy Lake winter trail network

Alaska State Parks describes the rolling topography at Nancy Lake as ideal for cross country skiing, dog mushing and snow machining, and Willow sits two miles north of the parkway junction. Teams move fast and cannot easily stop, which makes a loose pet dog on a shared trail a genuine hazard rather than a nuisance. Who makes the rules in Willow

Borough Title 24 applies in Willow. Inside Nancy Lake State Recreation Area and other state park units, the state rule applies instead: a nine foot leash in developed facilities, under control on trails and in the backcountry.

There is no designated off leash area in Willow itself, so any off leash work here happens on your own property or at a designated area elsewhere in the metro.
